Into the Well portrays an exploration of one’s
deep, true inner self. The figure on top is meditating, which is
the “key” to diving down past the “five senses”
into the subconscious. The figure at the bottom is not trapped or
caged; rather, she is safe, vulnerable, and able to express herself
through her paintbrush. The smaller canvas is suspended beneath
the larger one to represent the gap and distance one must travel
to truly delve into one’s deepest self; to find one’s
“well-being.”
What makes it mixed media? The key suspends gold wires from
which the “five senses” hang. The small canvas attaches
to the large canvas by a gold wire on the left side, and clear fishing
line on the right side.
